Tomorrow (Sunday) night we will be having a cookout open to RV-10 builders, flyers and enthusiasts. Of course, vendors that cater to us are also invited.
Target time is 6:00 in our Camp Scholler location which along 54th street, just south of Lindbergh. If you're not familiar with the area, Camp Scholler is just outside the Theater in the Woods gate. We've got an open area with picnic tables and canopies for shade. Looks like hamburgers, hot dogs, some sides, etc.
Hope to see you tomorrow. BTW, I ran into John Cox at the gate today and he promised a case of beer...

Cold Beer and 20# of ice to thank the Condreys, Specketers and Olson clan. It was a friendly swamp today. Come out and test the hospitality.

The beer will be there long before my RV-10 is done. All of you know that - damn it!.
The mentoring of kids with the RV-12 build project at VANS is nearly done now. Hana Hou ("the American Nanchang" in Oshkosh - the last five year project) N43HM is on the ole runway 13-31 with 4-22 at OSH for judging in the Warbird area. I will let the work on Hana speak to all you damn skeptics flying actual RV-10s built back in my youth. Many of you know that modifications and improvements naturally delay the delivery of an airworthy project. There is something to be said for Randy not deviating from VANS plans. Deems, since you got a chance to fly in 88, you might enjoy the stroll down memory lane with our latest.
I will be the ole gezzer with the White straw hat and the walker getting around at the RV10 Headquarters party. The other Nanchangs and Yaks got a redirect to Manitowok. Keeps the tough competition down.
Promises are the easy part. Delivery takes a little more.

I considered buying a CJ-6 as my “fun” airplane because they seemed like such a good aviation value including relatively inexpensive replacement engines. I demoed a few and thought they were a BLAST to fly. Other than operating costs the ones I looked at priced out less than a nicely outfitted RV-8 but with a big war bird feel. Clearly NX43HM has been upgraded a “tad”. One nice thing about these aircraft is that they are battle tested. Bases on how & where these planes fly and the various type fields the use most of the mechanical bugs & design flaws have been worked out to the point where simplicity generally rules.
Thanks for sharing John.

Sorry to have missed the cookout and meeting with lots of the list. It
was great to see the few folks that were around the HQ the two times I
managed to get free. With the mass arrivals scrubbed there wasn't a lot
of interest in camping on the mud, so stayed in hotel in MSN and
commuted. That meant no evening fireside socializing. Weather and such
limited time on site to Sun, Mon and Tues, so had to hit the displays on
a run and get to the key vendors of all the expensive gizmos and chunks
of metal needed for airplane completion. Obviously John was
concentrating on the high society warbirds, so missed him. Oh,
well...another time. Was good to see the -10s that made it in.

Here is a great story about Hal Morley's CJ in today's EAA news:
http://www.airventure.org/news/2010/100729_china.html
Let me apologize for the Triple Latte Starbucks and Chaisse Lounge Chairs that we are using in the "High Society" warbird area. While you are all singing at Camp Condrey, I am going out at 7AM tomorrow to do some aerial formation and combat flying. Yes, the Nanchang does have many of my mods and yes it delayed the delivery a full 8 years. Yes, it has caused "Builder Interuptus" on the RV-10 but then I have had the pleasure of watching many of you guys do a remarkably professional quality build all on your own.
Saturday Night I will also reluctantly miss the Homebuilt Awards even while hold hopes that an RV-10 does us proud. I will be at the Warbird Awards Ceremony in pursuit of Grand Champion. The rest is just a remarkable unforgetable Wisconsin Summer.
The bird "An American Nanchang" remains along the E-W pathway from the north most Red Trolley stop. I have missed you guys up in the Snob Section. We will be back on display by 9AM.
