If you use the 4 inch distance on
all six cylinders, the readings for 1,2,3, and 4 will be from mixed
exhaust gases.
Larry,
There's a new style exhaust that Jabiru came out with a while back. It's standard on the hydro lifter engines now. I have a solid lifter 3300 in a Europa. It came with the 3 into 1 exhaust you describe. I was having troubles getting my carby jetted correctly because the Europa is much cleaner than the stock Jabiru airframe. The result was a lean running engine in my bird. The new style exhaust has six individual headers that go down to the expansion chamber. I switched over to the new exhaust about a year ago. After switching to the new exhaust style I was able to correctly tune my carb for my airframe and get my EGT's in line, which in turn, brought down the CHT's some, too. Kinda pricey, but better than burning exhaust valves due to faulty EGT's.
Regards,
John Lawton

Subject: Re: Installing EGT probes on 3300
On my 3300 I measured down 4 inches and was into the collector tube ,
so I put my EGT probes down only 2.5 inches down. After a short time I
moved #2 probe to 5 inches down on # 6 so that I had two operating
probes on # 6. The two readings on #6 were the same. I then moves #2
back to its proper location and have not looked back. I expected to see
a difference but in fact I saw none. If you use the 4 inch distance on
all six cylinders, the readings for 1,2,3, and 4 will be from mixed
exhaust gases. Larry P.
