I have the Microair 760 radio in my Kitfox IV. It has an always on or off intercom triggered by a switch that absolutely sucks. I have a Pilot portable intercom with squelch control that is not much better. Keep meaning to get a decent panel intercom and now is the time but I cannot seem to find any good consumer reports that I trust. Most seem to be 4 place and that is never going to be an issue for me.
Thought I would ask the group. I am looking for clarity more than anything....more concerned about that than cost. I recently flew in another KF IV with a ICOMM that fit the 2.5" hole and it was great but I do not recall the model number and it was very old so probably not still available. I was in a Safari chopper with a Flightcom.
Any suggestions?

John,
When I built in 1993, I used the Sigtronics SPA-4 whick was pretty much all they offered. I liked it and it worked fine for me. I just ignored the other two outputs. I see that they now have the music imputs standard. They now also have the SPA 200 and 200S for two place aircraft. I am not sure if I will need one as I decided to go with the MGL V10 and MGL claims they have an internal intercom. If I find that it does not work as well, I will likely go with the Sigtronics 200S.

I have the Sigtronics SPA-400 with music interface; now, I believe, it's the SPA-4S. The audio is at least as good as the Icom A-200 radio, and with the Lightspeeds and Ipod the sound's pretty good. Not audiophile, mind you, but very nearly as good as the Ipod by itself. I had a problem earlier this year with the music shutting down intermittently, but it seems to have fixed itself. I dunno. It's got about 500 hours on it now.
One thing I did that made a big difference in the whole audio set-up was to reduce the mic gain in the A-200 significantly. By keeping the mic close and speaking louder I dramatically improved the signal-to-noise over both the radio and intercom. Might work with any radio. (It's an old open-cockpit trick. Not my idea.)

I have a SOFTCOMM ATC-2PS that works good for me. I like the stereo music jack feature. Was easy to install. Replaced my old PM-501 which never worked all the well.

PS ENGINEERING PM1200 was the only intercom (I tried 4 units) that was good enough for my KF 3. WORKS GREAT !!!! Has either a VOX or PTT options..I use PTT. Likely will also need the Oregon headset kits.
