I am just trying to get my ear to the ground for some parts if anyone has heard of any available. I have to ground the Fox when I get home so I can replace the tanks and I figure I might as well go over the whole plane and tweak a few things.
Specifically I am looking for a smooth cowl. As I understand this was not available for the 3 but a 4 will work with a little finesse. I would also love to get my hands on some Grove gear in the event that anyone is getting rid of some for a little (a lot) less then the store price.
I am also trying to figure out any other fun to do mods. On the list are VGs, and maybe some streamlining. Any other ideas? I am open to suggestions and still have several months to contemplate this stuff.
I am just hoping when I get home I don't just do the bare minimum to get 'er flying just to get up ASAP, you know the urge. . .

Wurlybird,
Thanks for the good report "flying with the doors off" I still have to do that with my 4.
As for changes to your aircraft I have incorporated the following:
(1) bush gear..well worth it and lighter than the Grove although you probably won't find one used as they are too new.
(2) electric elevator trim..only way to go !!! really nice to be able to trim on approaches
(3) VG's...eeehhhh not so much. They help stabilize but not that big of a deal on my aircraft. Look cool though.
(4) gap seals..easy/cheap to do and do help with elevator authority
Interesting to hear you had such an increase in speed/climb from the IVO.It is rather hard to believe but guys on the TeamKitfox forum are reporting the same. Maybe one day I will "suck it up" and get one to see if it is true. I sure wish it was a prettier prop but then when you're flying, you can't see it anyway.
Dick, you kind of replied to three of my posts in one but I moved it to here since that is the bulk of what I am going to respond to.
I considered the bush gear but it is hard to justify almost 10% of the cost of the plane for a different gear setup. Also it is too wide to fit on my trailer. With the 22" tires it already just barely squeaks in, literally. I can justify adding 4 inches to the trailer but another foot or so is ridiculous and more $$$.
Model 3, no trim. Electric or otherwise. Well the flaps, but you can't really trim those for approach, at least not if you like to bring in a ton of flaps and slip the thing straight down.
VGs seem like they would be a fun experiment although I doubt I would really feel their effects since it already lands so darn slow. But I would like to add them to the H and V stabs to add a little more authority to the controls.
Gap seal, already did that on the elevator and it made a HUGE difference.
Thanks for the input though. I need ideas to mull over to kill the idle time. I actually got very close to buying a set of amphibious Full Lotus a few months ago. Killer deal but I would have had to go get that rating and I did not want to kill all the performance that makes the Fox such a joy to fly. So the pondering continues.
I am also considering cutting one bay out of the wing as one other member did, he said it made it much more maneuverable but I am still waiting to hear how it affected the short field aspect. Also on the maybe list is fairings on the gear and wing supports. Just not sure I can realize the gains with no doors on.

I have Grove gear for Kitfox 5 available, not sure it is the same as for the 3.

I doubt they are interchangeable. The 5 is a bit wider and a lot heavier then the 3. I will look into it though, thanks for letting me know.
