Has anyone installed the factory supplied pitot/static by accessing the internals of the wing by entering the wing through the aileron closeout and bonding (say) a 4” aluminium disc with Araldite 420 to the inside of the wing skin in the appropriate location? This is instead of cutting the 45mm hole through the wing and then taking off another 40mm of paint around this hole to bond the ply fixing disc in place.
As the position of the pitot/static under the wing is only 4” forward of the aileron closeout it seems a pity to damage the finish to the wing if it possible to carry out the work as suggested above.
The cut out in the aileron close out can be “repaired” in a similar way to Mod 74 ie. the foam replaced and 3 plies of ‘bid’, lapping the first ply over the skin by 80mm(3 1/4”), the second by 15mm(5/8”) less than the first, and the third 25mm(1”) greater than the first.
Let me know if you think I'm mad.
Thanks
