Is there anyone around the champagne Illinois area or close that is a BFI so I can get my sport pilot license in a Kolb.

BFI is a license that was associated with one of the national ultralight organizations. Since the adoption of the Light Sport pilot license they can do nothing for you in getting a ticket. You need to find a CFI (certified flight instructor). Depending upon your ambitions, you need to decide whether to use a Sport Pilot CFI or a PPL (private pilot license) CFI. The difference being that dual instruction from a SP CFI will not count for more advanced ratings (your solo time will) while a PPL CFI's dual instruction will.

This winter? You mean THIS winter??!! You're going to build a MkIII in one
winter?!!
Damn, I wish I knew that was all it took.
BTW, you say MkIII. Do you mean Xtra or Classic? Just curious.
I've spent A LOT more time building my MkIII than just about anybody (except for
Mike S., hehe). I've changed a lot of things. Modified a lot of things. Done a few
things twice, because I didn't like the first version.
I've spent more than "a few" winters building it. More than a few summers, too.
Time to wrap it up!! Looking to finish it in a few short months. We'll see.
