Does anyone know a source for a pressure switch I can put in the pitot/static system. I'd like to disable the flaps-down function if the airspeed is above some reasonable value. I can find electronic sensors, but I'd like to eliminate any electronics for simplicity.

I suggest that an override switch be wired in parallel with the pressure switch, in case the pressure switch fails open.
An alternative to disabling the flaps would be an alarm that would sound if the flaps were lowered while above a certain speed. The pilot would hear the alarm as soon as the flaps started going down and she would let go of the switch before the flaps lowered enough to cause damage. (unless she is blonde) Very Happy

Kevin Horton made a spreadsheet that converts airspeed to pressure. This might help deciding which pressure switch to buy.

I agree. In my opinion, you should always have direct pilot control coupled
with an independent warning system. Automatic systems are like
bureaucracies: They can be expensive, frustrating to get working and prone
to failure when you need them the most!

I'd suggest the switch from TCW also - but be careful how you wire
it. Think about the scenarios when you would want it to work and when
not, and then figure out the wiring. An over-ride switch also sounds
sensible.

I'll second that suggestion. Keep in mind too
that any time you add complexity to any system,
the parts counts go up and failure modes expand,
probability for failure goes up.

If it's your CD player or cabin air conditioning
system, perhaps not a big concern . . . but hooking
motors to flight control surfaces is IS a BIG
concern.

One is well advised to consider return on
investment for adding complexity. Does it really
ADD to safety? Does it add a bunch of convenience
that helps you be a better pilot while adding little
or no risk? Consider the potential risks for handing
off legacy pilot duties to modern conveniences.

Finally, when such systems are added, make sure that
NO failure will produce a hazardous, un-commanded motion
of the surface and NO failure can produce a hazardous
failure-to-move the surface as needed.

My all time favorite flap system was actuated by
a handle that was pulled up off the floor. Nothing
happened until I was ready for it to happen . . .
and risk of the flaps not being available as
needed was exceedingly low.
