Bill, that is about what happened (calls and questions and even a mention on a blog site) when, on an April Fool's Day email, I sent a skunk works photo of the newly developed retract gear Lightning. See photo below.
Looking forward to seeing everyone this coming weekend at the Lightning fly-in, homecoming and open house.

It sure does look nice as an RG, doesn't it?
My son Mitch was looking at the screen when I pulled this up and he asked "Why don't you just have a tiny wheel on the bottom of the airplane and then have some way to stop the prop horizontal before landing? That way the prop doesn't hit, but you have less drag from just a little bit of the wheel extending below the fuselage."
I was about to pull up some picks of the Europa, but instead I said "That's great for landing, but what about takeoff?"
The look on his face was priceless! That moment of realization was physically observable. We both had a good chuckle.

Here's a picture from just a few minutes ago. It's 2:00 pm Friday here in
Shelbyville and we already have 8 Lightnings and Esquals here. The weather
is great with temps in the 70's and a nice breeze. This weekend is going to
great so come on out and say hi!
