Bob: I am searching the internet for rocker switches. I found your
site and read about rocker switches and found I didn't know any
thing. I had a cheap switch fail that was one of the less than $2.00
ones for my strobes. Also that I should probably be using the gold
contacts. My question is--you mention that the switches you sell are
good ones. Is there a catalog or list? Thanks: Gordon
Strobes are about the most demanding of all systems
when it comes to control switch selection. Readers
on this List have reported numerous difficulties
with switches having riveted terminals.
goto http://matronics.com/search
and search the AeroElectric archives for
carling & failures
(use the ampersand in the search string)
you'll get a dump on several threads involving
failures of Carling switches and/or terminals that
were mated to tabs on the switches.
The numbers of incidents were higher than we'd
like and we never did really deduce a single
root cause. A number of carcasses I've inspected
showed a variety of causes including poor fast-on
crimps, fast-on grips loose, rivets in switches
loosening and internal fits for part of the
switches. Interestingly enough, switches used
on strobes have demonstrated the highest rates.
It's unfortunate that you're locked into rocker
switches . . . your options for increased robustness
at attractive prices are much reduced.
Here's some alternatives you could try:
