Over LA at 10,000' a couple of years ago, I passed by one of those "balloon arches" that people use to decorate parties (like this: http://bouncefeverparty.com/site/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8_9&products_id=21).
Took me a while to figure out what it was...
Thanks,
Michael

Gary, before taking our California trip I was flying home from South Caroli
na and just under the north shelf of Atlanta's class B space I passed a pla
stic bag like you get at the grocery store within 50 feet of my left wing a
t 6,500'.
But no spider experience...

Yesterday, Dave White in his new (to him) Tiger and me in my Tiger flew bac
k to Auburn from Lancaster. -Somewhere outside of Porterville, at 8500 fe
et, we started passing what looked like large globs of spider webs. -They
appeared to be stringy and up to several feet long. -It was hard to see
them. -Today, when I went to the airport, I noticed my plane was covered
with these webs. -Some stretched the complete length of the wing cord.

I'll bet that was interesting.
I meant to add that we passed these cobwebs for about 150 miles. It was weird. I have them all over my plane. I've been flying for 32 years and I've never seen anything like it.

... and that is why we fly! Just think how many people spend their entire existence within six feet (above or below) of the surface of the earth. Aviators, on the other hand, get to see such things as parachute spiders in their natural environment!
