Hi All,

It would be nice to see the results as listed in your spreadsheet.

Unfortunately, not all of us have access to the latest and greatest
Excel version. How about saving a copy in an earlier format?

What was the density altitude? Fixed pitch prop?
Quote: | >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GPS alt was 8400 ish... and it was a cold day so DA is
likely close. Prop is fixed pitch Sensenich cruise (85) which is why RPM
|
wanders some. DA really won't matter in this comparison because the point
was just to see general behavior. What is amazing is how much temperature
change occurs with a relatively low change in timing.
Since there are a few RV-6's out there with O-320/O-360s that have displayed
higher CHTs than desired I wanted to produce some data reflecting solutions.
Retarding timing is the simple one, more cowl exit is the hard one, and you
can't just make the hole bigger by angling the cut forward. That just
pressurizes it at high AOA. (Been there - done that) It needs to be a louver
or flap door with sides.
For TO and climbout I generally dial in about 20deg of cowl open. The flap
is the width of the exit scoop and about ten inches long so it is a bit of a
barn door. I didn't really want the speed brake feature but the servo goes
there so it will help with those longer strafing runs next time I have to
save the world.
