On my 801 I had the front end completed before I fabricated my mount. I don't remember the 801 instructions calling out the 'put on the mount first' detail. My guess is they are afraid someone might distort the firewall while riveting on the surrounding skins and if the mount was fabricated on a flat surface plate, when bolted up it would place stress somewhere. Jus guessing here..
