I am getting ready to replace the oil hose from the cooler to the pump on my 912 because of a short radius bent that has been bothering me for a while. What is the best hose to use for that? Also, can the hoses be inverted on the cooler? In other words, is there an in and out ports or I can connect the hose from the pump in any end of the cooler and connect the hose from the tank in the other port?
Thanks listers

Jack,

I solved that issue on my first Model IV when a friend gave me a length of Stainless Steel spring that I ran inside the tube to keep the walls from collapsing. Later after a question like yours no one seemed able to find the spring, so I did a little experimenting and found that if you wound a bit of the .032 or .041 SS safety wire around a mandrel you can essentially build a spring that you can put into the tube. I just tried it again and would suggest that you try different size rods to see what just fits in the tube. You could also use the shank of a drill bit to get finer size graduations - a lathe sure helps.

Once wound, stretch the wire coils out a bit to give more length and run it into the tube to the vulnerable bend area. Once under tension from the bend, it won't move.

Jack you might try Merle Williams (at)merlewilliamsaviation.com. I bought a fitting that reverses the direction of the hose exiting the cooler outlet by 180 degrees in a very short space allowing me to use a short piece of straight run oil pressure hose to the pump. He has various fittings available.
