Hello everyone,

I've Googled myself silly, but am having a hard time getting a handle on
the numerous engines that can be used in the Series 6 Kitfox ... I'm
wrapping up an articel and came up blank with a search in the archives.

Thanks for helping out a cross-eyed writer!

best regards,

I have a Continental IO-240. Other options I considered were the O-235 Lycoming and Continental O-200. No doubt Rotax options are there but I am not as familiar with them.

Cory:

There are two more engines that come to mind that could be
considered for the Kitfox 5 thru 7. They are the Franklin and the
Subaru. The Franklin is an air cooled, aircraft design that is
represented by a small company in Colorado, and I believe the Subaru is
converted by a group called NSI, but if Deke reads this, he can give you
more detail on that one. I suppose, you should also know that there is
a guy in Florida who converts Corvair engines for use in aircraft.
Mounts and cowlings are always of concern for any engine choice
made, and just how much engineering that the builder wants to take on,
will greatly influence his (her) choice.

Cory,
You can use just about any 100+ hp engine you want, if you are willing to do
some work. The ones that come immediately to mind that I have seen installed
are:

1. Cont IO-240
2. O-200
3. O-235
4. Franklin
5. Rotax 912
6. Rotax 914
7. Stratus Subaru
8. NSI Subaru
9. Honda
10. Corvair (although I have not seen one flying)

I do not think the Rotax 582 or 532 would be practical to put in a Series 6.
Not enough power, and you might have to add nose weight to get the WB to
come in.

Don't forget the Lyc O-290-D, 125hp w/ 140 hp 5 minute rating and not much
heavier than O-235.

I built up my own EA-81 Subaru for the mod 4. If I were building a mod 5 or
6 I would be real tempted to use a Subaru Legacy engine and do the same
thing. Larry Huntley
