My Breaker panel will be hinged at the bottom, the idea being future maintenance, you just have to tip the panel out to get to the bus bars.  In order to support the wire bundles I want to use a cushion clamp attached to the bus bar.  I have a a tie for two rows of breakers that is held together with #8 screws, this is a convenient place for a cushion clamp.  You can see the clamp in the photo.



The clamp is totally cushioned, (WDG type) so the wires will not touch any metal, but there would be voltage running trough the metal part of the clamp.  I wonder if this could cause problems?  It would take more work but I can fashion a standoff attached to the panel to make the same support.  Just wonder if the easy route will work.

  It's a bit un-orthodox as you've already guessed. You're

  using the terminal tabs on a row of circuit breakers for

  a task that is normally provided by some structurally

  robust support. Given the relatively light mass of just

  4 wires, I wouldn't anticipate future difficulties. No

  doubt a TC cert team would ponder it with some distress

  but then, that's one reason we choose to reside in our 

  parallel universe . . . right? I think it will be okay.

AeroElectric-Listers . . .



   Had a couple of direct emails asking why some of my

   postings were stripped of the quote tags for the

   posting to which I was responding . . . often to the

   extent of duplicating much data.



   When involved in a running conversation, it's a GOOD

   thing that we strip our replies of past threading.

   I have a folder in my email client where I stash

   what might be called "tech tips". These are complete

   threads of an idea or process that COULD be subject

   matter for another publication. I have 2500+ such

   items on file.



   The 'Connection was necessarily limited to

   simple-ideas for components and broad ideas for

   architectures. The few copies I've had returned

   from dissatisfied customers came with a note that

   said, "I thought you were going to tell me how to

   wire my airplane."



   The Tech-Tips publication will go to hands-on

   examples of materials selection and shop practice

   . . . a logical follow-on to the 'Connection.



   So when you see postings like the one I put up

   an hour ago, understand that it's one more

   "note card" of many being stacked up as source

   material for another publishing effort. Now all

   I need is a couple of months of spare time to

   edit the thing!
