Guys, I just completed installing the auto plug conversion on my CJ 6 using the NGK BR6HS plugs. I have noticed an increase in EGT temp of 100-150 degree's Fahrenheit during my usual cruise & leaning. It's running around 1300-1325 F. Is that range acceptable for the Housai engine? Also, is the increase because of better combustion of the NGK plug? The cylinder head temp is seems normal. Has anyone else had this kind of EGT increase? Is there a NGK plug with a colder heat range? The engine does run smoother with only a 50 RPM difference in the mag check whereas before the conversion it would be 200 RPM or so. Thanks in advance.

BR7's are one heat range colder. You most likely will not see the same operational efficiency with colder plugs. Particularly with the RPM drop and quick starting. I've also see folks run BR8's. An even colder plug. Even less

The BR6HS is in the mid-range of heat transfer range. I found the -6 to be a good all-around choice but I prefer the hotter -5 or even BR4HS for the way I run my engine. I don't think there is any "best" plug, it's all about what's best for the way the engine is operated.

For M-14P's that are mostly operated at Cruise I or II settings, the warmer plugs will burn off more lead and combustion deposits. I have also removed my shutters since I set my 24" dia. Crowder spinner inside the cowling opening.

For short durations at high power settings, such as mostly acro sessions, the cooler range spark plugs may be the best compromise.
