I’m curious what other folks are doing on shutdown.

I’ve got in the habit and shutting off my fuel and running the engine dry to prevent fuel from sitting in the carb bowl and possibly tarnishing and so on.

I don’t think it is an issue with AVGAS as much as with MOGAS, and I tend to run about 90% AVGAS and 10% MOGAS (I get the MOGAS when I’m feeling cheap and have a bit more time to stop by on my way to the airport).

Any potential downsides to running the engine dry? Is it better to have a wet carb bowl or ???

Don

List
One other thing on leaking carby's.
Make sure you have the new Black floats. The Old white ones ( Not good for ethanol ) on mine would not hold at 1.5 lbs. of pressure. I changed the needle to the new black tip and it made no difference. I put the carb in a clear plastic bowl and set the fuel level with the bottom off the Carb. I pressurized it using a very fine calibrated gauge and it would leak profusely at less than 2 psi.
The black floats fixed the problem.

Hi Don,

I have a 2200 on my Kolb Mark 3 Extra micolight. I do not run the engine dry and have never had any trouble. The exception was when I went to NZ last year and I knew the plane would be unused for at least a couple of months. No special priming on start up after that. Just half a dozen blades pull through before switching on (which is my usual practice anyhow) and away she went.. No prob.
I would expect more trouble from old petrol than from carb. trouble.

Thanks for the e-mails but I'm no longer interested in the Jabiruengine. You need not send e-mails in the future. Thank you.
