I'm having trouble bleeding one of the Matco MC-1s on my KFIII rebuild. The fluid won't flow up from the brake to the reservoir at the rudder peddle. I've disconnected the reservoir from the rudder peddle to make sure the piston is fully extended but still no good. The lines are not pinched. Do I need to start pulling the brake itself apart ?

thanks,

EG

EG, Don't be afraid to call Matco. I called them with a problem and they diagnosed it correctly over the phone. My pedal and linkage was binding up and the piston was not returning to top. It was only about a 1/16th of an inch. But, that was enough to not let caliper pressure relieve and release the brake.

I had a similar issue a couple of years ago. I changed the bleeder valve to
standard aircraft bleeder valves and the problem went away.

Take out the bleeder screw at bottom of caliper

Clean it out with a tiny drill like 1/16 " my hand -- it likely plugged.
I put up a few more Kitfox videos today on you tube

one is lost ASI

other is Fuel tank plumbing

Off flying now before dark Smile

I was able to get it sorted out with help from Andy at MATCO. The airplane had been sitting up for a number of years and the piston was stuck in the cailper not letting the fluid through. Andys's tip was to close the bleeder nipple and shoot shop air in the exit hole to the reservoir. It took some messing with but it finally forced the piston out. I cleaned it all up and checked the O ring then reassembled the brake and serviced it. It works and no leaks (yet). good tip and service from MATCO, thanks Andy.
