Hello Gaggle:

I have been fighting leaking fuel tans for a while.  The tanks are aluminum and sealed with PRO SEAL or the equivalent.
Since my engine likes both AvGas and MoGas and MoGas has ethanol I would like a sealant that can stand up to both.
Stop - I know about the trick of removing the ethanol from MoGas but that is only about 90% effective.
I would like to run straight MoGas.
Would anyone out there have any experience in this area?

Thank you for the assistance.
Barry

From what I have seen Pro Seal is what Vansused to sell and it seems it will stand up to MoGas as long as you don't let the tanks sit empty. I have seen pro seal turn to gue after it had sat for long periods of time (and I am talking years) so it might be the vapor more than the actual fuel that causes the degradation.

Van's now sells Flame Master and I am not sure if it is reformulated or what but you might want to call Van's aircraft and ask if it will stand up to MoGas

I installed my fuel tank senders (capacitance type) with proseal and this is the first I've heard of any problems with it. My plane isn't finished yet and I'm currently modifying the wings with the upgrade kit. Should I be concerned about the long-term stability of the proseal? I'm not real interested in opening the wing again any time soon.

Tim

I've been interested in capacitance fuel probes. Where did you get yours?
How did you do the install? Are you using an EFIS to read them?

I got them from Skysports which I think has been bought out by Aircraft Spruce. They used to be located at an airport in mid-Michigan.

I installed the probe in the outboard end of the tank - it has a aluminum tube the length of the tank (you can trim them) and is bent first up and then down diagonally to read the fuel level. I attached a nylon tip to it so it can't bounce and short out inside the tank.

There are adjustment screws for Empty and Full and you can attach it to a digital engine monitor or analog gauge - whatever works. You feed it 12 volts and the voltage output varies from 0 for empty to 5 for full as I recall.

Mine is not connected to anything as yet although I did test it with a voltmeter and it seems to function as advertised.

If you want more info I probably have some pix. Just send me an email.

I use the capacative fuel sender in my header tank in my 701. It has an
adjustable alarm to show low fuel which I have hooked up to a red flashing
LED in my dash. It also serves as another warning as mine will show an
alarm if the battery voltage goes low. I guess that low voltage affects the
capacatance reading.
