My $.02 for what it's worth and to add to your collective reflection: the battery disconnect switch also serves the purpose of shutting down the electrical system rapidly with one switch in the event of an emergency (or 'abnormal') situation. With this contactor, you need to be able to supply voltage to it in order to shut the system down, which may not be available after an off-field landing or fire (due to broken/burnt switching wires).
