My background is basically opposite yours, however I agree 100%. I started messing with AOA instruments in 1968 when a fellow EAA member lost some friends in a stall/spin accident. Finally in '95 started producing AOA systems, went to software version in 2000, When I first began giving forums at Sun n Fun & Arlington I got the "deer in headlights" look. From about 96 or 97 till 2005 magazines myself and other producers of AOA's spread the safety of using the AOA systems, and with the new faster aircraft today, the AOA is even more useful.
A friend, former FAA test pilot at Atlantic City, NJ commented "when flying without an AOA I feel as I am missing a friend. There are 4 pressure differential type and my system which uses a vane. With all this available why are people still having stall/spin accidents---You hit it 100% we in the EAA MUST police ourselves. I was a flight advisor for a few years, but so many knew more than they really did I had very few calls for a "review" and finally gave it up. Sadly the few who asked were sharp and didn't really need much. Sorry for going on and on, but this 25,000 hour pilot in over 140 makes & models and a CFI since 1962 agrees with you. www.riteangle.com ps: lots of systems on Kitfox
