Hello Harv,
The red beacon at the top of my vertical stabilizer and the wing tip nav/position/strobes on my CJ are from AveoEngineering. They are LED-based, very bright, draw next to no power and will probably last forever. You'll have to make a small aluminum plate to cover the large hole in the wing tip, but that's very simple.

The Whelan kit is very good. We installed it on all of our restorations with very good results. The kit is more expensive than some others, but it is reliable, easy to install, and the comet flash is a much enhanced visual aid.
