I note that each of the various sections of the Rotax 17mm coolant hose making up the 912 coolant system have individual part numbers associated with them when shown in the part catalogs of CPS and Lockwood. I was told recently that you can't purchase these as precut and formed sections of hose as suggested in the catalogs but only as a length of hose that you than cut yourself and fit to the engine. Is this true and, if so, what length (ball-park) of hose does it normally take to replace all the coolant hose on an engine?

I bought oil cooler hose from California Power Systems. They may also have water coolant hose.

I think I used about 9' of 3/4" heater hose from a truck parts place and about 4' of 1" hose. Has some left but not much.

Hi Goodone,
The CTSW uses 2 meters of the 17mm hose. It is easy to cut in lengths that you need. You may want to check to see if you need 25 mm
(approx. 1") hose for the radiator.

I bit the bullet and bought 2 meters of 17 mm hose from Lockwood (very expensive). I ran a little short for my heater installation in my Kitfox . so I went to Napa and bought silicone hose. The engine itself did not require the additional length. Silicone hose has a little more give but worked perfectly.(even if it was not 17mm) If you do get silicone make sure you have the proper clamps. Silicone hoses take clamps that won't allow the hose to "squirm" out of place (per the NAPA rep)

Hi All
Last year when I changed the hoses on my 912 I went to the local auto parts supplier and bought a few "formed hoses" especially designed for some brand of foreign cars. I cut pieces from them to match up with the shapes necessary for my Kitfox application. This way I was able to eliminate some of the metal sections and therefore reduce the number of "connections and clamps". I am not sure of the diameter but most foreign applications use metric measurements and they fit tightly to the Rotax parts. It made for a fairly neat installation. Does anyone have comments on this? Or reasons why this is not a good idea.
