|
|
I am trying to buy replacement bulbs for my 18T. In particular I am frustrated at the beacon bulb blowing at least every 50 hours. [I am aware I should also be investigating possible excessive vibration.] Ideally I would like direct LED replacements, and perhaps ones which are strobes with built-in flasher electronics. I am sure I can buy what I need at several $hundred but I reckon I can do much cheaper browsing the Internet. But I do not know what to buy?
What is the specification of the bulb socket/fittings? I see another post here where we're told CJ6 bulbs have the "1142" bayonet. I can buy bright LED 1142 bulbs fairly cheaply. Is that what I want for the nav and beacon bulbs on an 18T? And what about the lights on the undercarriage? And the landing light?
Thanks, Paul.

There are LED replacement bulbs for the indicators. The beacon can be
replaced with a U.S. led unit,

Go to "superbrightleds.com".
For the CJ6 indicator lights which are a Mazda 313 equiv. you would use
their BA9S series.
I don't know if the 18T is the same but suspect it is.

The nav lights are a specialty bulb and are readily available from any
aircraft parts supplier. they are FAA PMA'ed, fit the CJ and probably all
the Yak series as well.
Of course they are very expensive but Doug has Chinese ones at a much better
price.

Paul, I have been trialling a LED light and reflector obtained on ebay for the tail light, see attached pic. Contact me off list if you want more details on this project. Cheers, Phil Gower.

Find a more professional lighting online store, contact the customer service, maybe they will tell you in detail.

Are you looking for LED indicator lamps or exterior lamps?

Here is what I have done and is from a previous posting.
The red beacon at the top of my vertical stabilizer and the wing tip nav /position / strobes on my CJ are from AveoEngineering. They are LED-based, very bright, draw next to no power and will probably last forever as they are in solid epoxy. You'll have to make a small aluminum plate to cover the large hole each the wing tip, but that's very simple. Here is a link:
www.aveoengineering.com/Aviation/Airplane_LED_Lights/position_LED_lights/AveoFlashLP_Ultra/index.php
www.aveoengineering.com/Aviation/Airplane_LED_Lights/position_LED_lights/PosiStrobe_MiniMax/index.php
Two of us at FFZ have AveoEngineering lights on our CJs.
There are also replacements for the small exterior Chinese bulb. It's 24 volt, LED cluster that has the same bayonet base. This would be a direct, drop-in replacement for the lights on the nose gear, mains and tail cone. This particular LED arrangement has viewing angle of 90 degrees, so it is brightest when seen from straight ahead. Here is where I found this:
www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fother_bulbs.htm
The web site navigation is a little confusing, but basically what you would be looking for is the 24 volt, white, dual contact, single intensity, 15 mm 1142 bayonet base. The ordering designation is: 1142-W15-24V White LED bulb - 24V. I've attached a picture of what this looks like installed.
There are also smaller LEDs from the same web site that you can use to replace the six interior landing gear indicator lights and the cockpit interior lights.
I hope that this is helpful.
