What other options do I have?

Do you have a thermostat on the engine?

Not sure you'll need anything else besides that, but there are some people making louver systems for some radiator setups. here's one: http://www.theultralightplace.com/new_page_8.htm

How about mixture control?

Nope - no thermostat or mixture control.

I guess I should look into both.

Thanks, Bob - I should have guessed that you'd be able to respond to this question.

I have been using a ball valve between my heater and the engine. I have the valve in the cockpit so I am able to just dial in the temp I want. I got this tip from the guys up in Canada. It works great.

You got to explain a little more about your system a Ball Valve between your heater and engine is not enough, do you have external cooler/Coolers? in this system. also what Temp are you controlling the heater or the engine Temp ?

Heater control valves are fairly common on some engines. (not the Rotax) They are an in line valve with a cable. Opening or closing regulates the flow thus the heat exchange. They can usually be purchased at an auto parts store. If you can't find it at the US auto parts store then try the foreign parts store. They were more common overseas many years ago. I suppose you could also make your own, but make sure you use a metal one and not a plastic that may be subject-able to the heat or be prone to failure from the heating and cooling cycle.

Ok,
The coolant goes out of my hot engine, then to the heater. After the heater, I have a brass ball valve that I can reach in the cockpit. Then it goes to the radiator and then back to the engine. I try to keep my water temp around 180 to 190f.
