Thought I'd call on the power of the list.

Two separate enquiries re Yak52.

1. Have had several compressor failures in the last two years - shear pins (rivets) sheared in each case. Replaced each time with correct spec replacements. Compressor itself appears to be fine each time, goes a few hours before the next failure - although never after the same number of hours. Any ideas any one? Anything else to check (apart from replacing the compressor).

2. I've heard that U/C bulbs can be sourced from someone like LUCAS - and all that is required is for the lugs to be filed off. Does anyone know the part number for the official replacement from such a source or similar?

Thanks

Nigel

You’ll need to overhaul the compressor.  That is the reason it keeps popping the shear pins.  Been there done that.

Do you run your engine at any point of your flying above 80% for more than 5 minutes? Like in an extended climb.

OK. That was the next step. Assume that cured the problem?

OK so you have to overhaul your compressor. The bog deal is to unmount the six screws. You will need to have the bended tool or to make it.
These screws are so difficult to reach and tight that most time they are not tighten as they should.
After the compressor itself is not a big deal
BTW, unmounting is OK but mounting is another thing.
Russian make the unmounting overhauling and remounting in about half a day.
Better count two days.

Totally agree regarding the compressor. Or replace it with a new one of
course.

Regarding the bulbs, OSRAM 3899 is a direct replacement and has the
correct case and bayonet.
