I have had only one ramp check, which immediately was after a late night cross country landing in Nov 2004 in Hayes, KS. The FAA guy was very cordial and only wanted to inspect my AROW documents plus pilot's certificate and current medical certificate. That is all he was interested in. Of course, I was flying a Cherokee 140 with no pretense of being part 103 compliant .

I had one years ago. It was at a hot air race with 75 balloons. Pre-race documentation warned or is it informed that FAA would be doing ramp checks. On the first flight I was pre-flighting and got a tap on the shoulder. Pulled out the Arow docs. Well, weight is interesting in a balloon-- now I am heavy, three seconds of heat and now I am light. He had no problem. I had an extra spot in the basket so I took him for his first hot air flight-- figure I saved another pilot from getting a ramp check--LOL
