Kitfoxers, I'm running a 582 C box with a 72" Warp Drive prop. What RPM should I be running in straight and level flight, cruise and full throttle. Also I can idle down below 2000 RPM on ground at start up but on approach I have trouble getting RPM below 3000. I can't get her to stop pulling, hard to land when you can't get her to idle down.

Set it up for 6800 WOT, level flight, at about 6500' density altitude.
Everything else is what it is. I cruise at about 75% power, which works
out to 90% of your WOT speed. (Speed varies as the cube root of power.)
Can't help you with idle, as I always had an RK400 clutch, which I can't
recommend enough.

Guy, Thanks for info. My biggest concern is that high idle on final at flare.

It's been a common problem on the list in the past. That's one reason
why a lot of us run the clutch. I've always loved it. I notice the price
is up to $520US. Hard to swallow when the whole engine's only worth a
few grand. I do think, though, that it's the best improvement you can do
to a flying 582.

Guy, Thanks for the reply. I never could figure out why run a clutch except for startup at low idle to eliminate all the gearbox vibration. Now I know themajor advantage of the clutch is reduction if rpm on flare.
Hey, Dave Fischer do you have a problem with reducing rpm on the 582 for landing?

In a glide at idle power, the prop is being driven by the airflow; thus, the windmilling prop/engine is actually a drag on the aircraft. The reason for difference between ground and glide RPM is due to windmilling effects (which produce drag).

The fact that the aircraft doesn't want to land at idle power is simply that there is excessive airspeed, not excessive power. I'd be interested to know what your final approach speed is before the flare.

Mike, Thanks for your input.  I'm flairing too high most of the time also. I can't seem to get the correct sight picture for flair height. This happened previously and I corrected it. Now I'm back to flairing too high and bouncing back into the air. I am going to get my instructor up with me again.
