Weather is cruddy in Central Alabama. Got my gold plated Bing Carb
parts yesterday. Will try to get them installed, along with new
throttle cables today.

Plan to depart for MV Tuesday morning. That'll put me into MV
Thursday afternoon, 18 May. I can still leave as late as Wednesday
and get there Friday morning.

Weather looks good at this time for the flight from here all the way
to MV.

Looking forward to MV, seeing my old buddies and meeting new ones.

Also time for another Navajo Taco and some Navajo Fry Bread and honey.

The service station/convenience store has some pretty good fried
chicken too.

And the resturant has excellent coffee. Wink

I will be departing from El Paso, TX Thursday morning and should be there in
the afternoon. They have thunderstorms forecast for center to northern New
Mexico so my itinerary is not set in stone. Dave Rains will be flying in
from Dallas on Thursday in his Cessna.

Good on ya, pardner!

Must say I miss the excitement involved in serious cross country
flying in a FS and a two stroke. Cut my cross country teeth on them a
few years ago.

Have a super, safe flight, Will!

Gang:

The old Garmin GPS 196 is updated, both Jeppesen and Obstacle
Clearance.

Some time back John W informed me that I was legal to fly with updated
Jep Data Base, even though my sectionals were out of date. That
covers the MKIII for insurance purposes, and keeps me relatively safe
from landing at what I think are uncontrolled airports that suddenly
sprout an operational control tower. Ooooops!

The Obstacle Data Base is not 100%, but it is much better than flying
low level without that capability.

GPS has made our sport much, much safer. Saves a lot of time and fuel
navigating cross country. Would be hard to go back to the sectional
and mag compass.

Chile Rellenos are one of my favorite. Will give them a try when I
get to Gouldings.

Take care,

john h

Hi All,

I'll be leaving Tucson in my Mark III with a Zenith 701. Will pick up another Zenith 701 in Payson, AZ. The 3 of us will leave the Tucson area around 0500 hrs. Thursday and be in MV about 1200 hrs. A Rans S12 should also be flying up Friday from the Tucson area. Looks like fun in the sun.

I just spent $30.95 on sectionals and WACs.
I will be making short flight hopefully not lasting more then 2 hours each.
Here is my planed flight; I may have to deviate around some thunderstorms
and restricted areas.
T27 to KTCS 121 miles
KTCS to KGNT 130 miles
KGNT to KGUP 55.4 miles
KGUP to UT25 131 miles

Dave will be carrying my camping gear in his Cessna so if he is held up in
route due to weather I will be sleeping under a tree. Tree???? Whats that?

Will U.

I'll trade ya - enchiladas and rellenos for another ride in Miss P'fer.
Wel-l-l-l-l........maybe I'll throw in some gas money, too, considering the
price of the stuff. Smile

The Navajo Tacos are so good I didn't try anything different till the last
meal last year. The New Mexico style chicken enchiladas and chile rellenos
at Goulding's are terrific, and very different from what we get here.

The output is re-assembled on Vamoose' engine, it's partly cleaned up, and
the re-drive will go back on tomorrow. All going well, it should be running
tomorrow and we'll see about that stubborn oil leak. I think I got it -
finally. Several changes have been made.

The camper will go back on the truck tomorrow, as well, after a couple of
weeks off, and I've already started sorting gear. Sounds like this is gonna
be a good visit this time........as have all the others been.

All MV 2006 attendees

I hope everyone has another wonderful trip to Monument Valley this year. I
can't describe how much I'm going to miss it this year. I was only there one
year and didn't have my plane there but it was very special. I will miss
giving Big Lar a rough time, the great photo flight I had with Dave in his
Cessna and all the great people that attended last year. MAYBE next year I
will figure a way to get my plane out there.

Everyone have a safe trip I will be waiting for reports.

Fire away, Gridley. We can handle it. Smile If you'll promise to be there
next year, I'll promise to bring Vamoose. (I hope Smile Tomorrow will tell
the story, tho' it's hard to work out there........temps were over 100
today - have been all week - and fairly humid. I hafta say that all went
well today, and everything looks very good, tho' I mis-doubt my safety
wiring will win any beauty awards. It'll do the job, tho'...............

Hi Everyone,

Checked the ten day forcast. Highs are supposed to be around 83-85 and lows around 53-55. I believe this is ten degrees cooler than last year. Should make for some nice flying weather. The people from Arizona will have to wear a jacket in the mornings. The people from the east and north will probably think it's summer at 55 degrees. (burrrr) LOL
Rain percentage is 10-20%, which translates out here to "no rain".

Since I am driving to Monument Valley, Mark-III in tow, I'll throw some
firewood into the back of my truck. Also, I'll have donuts and a pot of hot
coffee going on Friday morning, in the parking area at Goulding's airstrip.
Is Dave Rains again planning to bring cases of excellent German beer in his
hauls-everything Cessna-175? Looking forward to seeing everybody ...

MV Group,

I am packing the motorhome today. Kathy and I plan to drive to Monument Valley on Friday. It will be the first stop of our summer vacation. No Firestar this year, but at least we will make it. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

The Firefly is secured and ready for the trip to MV. Qing, Ming and I will leave tomorrow (Wed) around 5am and plan to arrive in MV sometime on Thurs. We will do a little sightseeing on the way and take it easy so it will likely be Thursday afternoon when we get in to Gouldings. The trailer will be in the familiar spot, just above the playground. We will be heading out for Tucson after dinner on Saturday night.... we've got to get Ming (8th grader) back for school on Monday, her last week before the summer break.

Looking forward to seeing everyone that is coming this year! Hope you all have safe travels!! See you soon.
