Jeff--
Your observations are similar to my own. I have about 85 hours on the mod and as with most things ,you get used to it.

Subject: Question about handling CH601XLB post mods/flight evauation
Dear Technical Support,
This morning I test flew N196ZP Ch601XL B model serial number 6-4839 at my local airport (SDC) with that in mind, I was a bit concerned over the "stiffness" of my ailerons. Before the mod I would describe my Zodiacs handling as superb, but today control forces in the roll aspect of flight were quite stiff and required some force to move.
Is this normal? I would assume some change in the handling qualities due to the mods/aileron counterweights, but I definitely was not that comfortable with the aileron response.
Should the cable tension be backed off a bit? Are you fielding similar response from other "modifiers'?
Other than that, I have attached some pictures of our latest iteration of our much loved Zodiac. We stripped all the paint off of her this winter while we completeed the mods and I am now trying to debug the aircraft after sitting for 1.5 years. Also, sorry about Sun N' Fun I was very saddened by the misfortune caused by the weather, I can't even imagine what it must feel like.
Well thanks for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Jeff Paris and Peter Paris in Rochester, NY

Because of insurance issues, put my XL down in October for the "B" mod. Had it back enjoying the sky last month.
Did not notice any control force difference. I kept the hingeless aileron which still promptly centers the stick when the stick is roll deflected, and released, on the ground.

Hi Jeff. After the mod, the geometry for the center spar has changed somewhat. Make sure the cables are not rubbing against each other, especially the rudder and/or elevator against the aileron cable. These tolerances are fairly tight so you may need to either add a pulley, change the fairlead or move the cables beneath the offending ones. As for flight, the 601XLB handles better than it did before... much more stable for some reason. Might be due to my rigging the ailerons better this time! I still have a heavy left wing although that's expected due to my weight which I am slowly binging down to my old smoking days.
