To the group.
Arion Aircraft has been flight testing a Reddish stall warning system on our demo plane.
Although the Lighting and LS-1 have a good stall buffet prior to stall There has been interest in an audible warning system.
We picked up this unit from aircraft spruce from about $90. And than ordered a piezo buzzer from Mc Master Carr.
Since I did not want to run permanent wires yet we use the taxi light wires for now. This will be handy to turn it on and off in flight.
Also since I only had a vague idea of where to put it we mounted it in an old landing light lens.
Have flown about 3 hours of flight testing with it now and getting close to coming on when I want it.
Getting it to come on at like 45knts with flaps down seem about right problem is it activates at about 55knts when in a clean configuration, so some tweaking needed.
The buzzer is readily heard and I don’t think we need a louder one. It is currently zip tied to the front of the spar box between your legs.
If one wanted it louder it could be placed on behind the seats with the head set jacks or in the panel as is comes with a nifty screw on cover form panel mounting.
After another week or two of flight testing I think we will be happy with it.
At that point it will be offered as an option on the Light sport LS-1.
Anyone building a kit. The PN10-00189 is from spruce. I don’t have the buzzer number but I bet you can get one from the radio shack.
When I get a final position I will send it out on the list if anyone is interested.
Currently the mounting screws on the unit are dead on the leading edge, the little metal tab hangs down a few degrees and this is the best I have had it.
I will be mounting it permanently near the inspection hole for the aileron bellcrank. IF the angle changes slightly the manufacturer says you can bend the tab to adjust, shouldn’t be far off.
