In November 2009 I decided my winter project would be to upgrade my engine to include a 5th bearing. Little did I know that the FAA have more of an upgrade in mind for me! Now many months later I have completed the upgrade and entered into ground testing of the aircraft. Everything is checking out fine. Here is a list of things I've changed:
- Dan's 5th bearing
- high volume oil pump
- new smaller diameter Matco brake lines
- re-routed brake lines through the center "tunnel"
- relocated the Dynon fuel flow sender to be more accurate
- XL-B upgrade kit
- fixed various minor squawks
I have to travel much for business, so I've taken a much longer time to do the work than I thought. Even so, the plane is almost air worthy again, and when I can get the final checklist items checked we will fly again. My plan is to fly in to see all my Corvair friends at Corvair College 20, which should be one of the best ever.
