Hi List,
Is anyone using a material other than the cut in half hoses that ZAC supplies as a cushion between the main gear support and and main landing gear? On my plans this is shown on page 6-G-3.
These ZAC supplied hoses seem like they will do the job but it seems there must be a better (at least more attractive) solution.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Steve,
I purchased a mud flap at NAPA for trucks
(24" x 30") and cut them out of the thicker perimeter areas. They have
fabric reinforcement molded in and are cheap as well.

Hi Cory,
Is your Corvair built by William Wynne, do it yourself or other?
Thanks for the tip on the mud flap. Out of curiosity - why did you change from supplied materials? Was it a form or function decision?

Steve,
This is Lynn -- Corry is the city. I built my Corvair
myself as per Williams recipe and with his manual, parts and guidance. I
also used much info from Mark Langfords incredibly useful website. My Zenith
performs great with the Corvair, and I always get comments on how cool it
sounds. As
for the landing gear cushions, the hose supplied for that purpose isn't
something I ever considered using. Overall, I was well pleased with the kit
materials and quality of parts supplied by Zenith for the 601 XL. I'm not
sure why they fall so short of the quality standard on this simple part.
It's easy to cut out cushions that nest nicely between mount bolts for the
gear.

On the 701 the factory is now using some pink high density polymer. It is about 0.4 to 0.5 inches thick as I recall.

Steve
I used the material supplied but cleaned up the edges and fit on the band
saw.
I don't think the material was intended to be the finished part as supplied.
It is ugly in the overhanging untrimmed state but cutting it back to size
works well even after 5 years.
