Hi,
I had a problem once with an EGT probe failing in an IO-540. The probe kept breaking off inside the exhaust pipe. Finally, it struck me that the probe was getting sheared off from the expansion/contraction of the inner and outer exhaust pipes (the probe happened to be installed where there was tight fitting joint). The probe happened to pass through the exhaust pipe right at a location where the exhaust pipe had an expansion joint. I simply took apart the exhaust pipe, drilled the hole bigger in the inner exhaust pipe only, reinstalled the exhaust pipe, installed a new EGT probe, and walla never had the problem again.
Not sure from your description if this is your problem.

I am having a problem with the brass fitting, that attaches the EGT probe to the exhaust pipes. I have had 4 fittings fail. And when they fail, the probe gets loose and I get error readings on the EIS. I have contacted EIS and told them of the problem and they say they have not heard of the problem. I asked them to contact their supplier of the fitting to see if he can make one out of stainless steel. They are researching.
The fitting is 1/8th pipe thread compression on 1 side, and 8mm on the other side (the side that threads into the exhaust pipe). The 8mm side bends and the threads strip out....almost vanish. I think it might be a combination of heat on the brass along with vibration. I believe the exhaust pipe itself is stainless ....isn't it? So it seems to make sense to use a stainless fitting.
