FWIW this is not a concern with an EIS4000 monitor. It seems to turn on
almost instantly. So fast that I don't even know whether mine reboots
when I crank the engine.
I've never bought into the argument that one needs to see oil pressure
instantly. It takes a few seconds to come up and if it isn't there you
are going to wait a few more seconds. Then you are going to think about
it and most of the time likely restart the engine anyway. If oil
pressure is the main concern, I'd be more inclined to add manual or
electric pre-oiler capability rather than an extra EFIS power supply.
Yes, unlike what we see in a vehicle, solid state devices connected to
the electric grid tend to be susceptible to high voltage spikes from a
nearby lightning hit on the wires.

Thanks Bob,
I like the idea that my EFIS won't reboot during engine start - cos I want
to see the oil pressure right about then.
Either way, I'm a newbie to this forum and feel very fortunate to have such
experienced and articulate guys to help numpties like me steer a true
course.
I assume then that OV is the reason confusers (computers) are susceptible to
lightning activity without a 'surge' protector?
Kind regards, Stu

Copied. I guestimate that my Dynon D700s take about 10-15 seconds to boot.
I'll also be powering COM # 2 from the IBBS during start, so I have a means
to call TWR/RFF if I see flames from the engine bay!
Cheers, Stu
