Ralph, Sorry to hear about the break in! I don`t know the laws in
Minnesota. However, in a lot of states "tampering with an aircraft "
carries a stiffer penalty then a routine theft. Sure hope the perps
get caught, so they can throw the legal book at them! Lanny FSII

Tampering with an airplane is a federal offense so the FBI should be called in.

Hard luck Ralph,
break ins always leave a nasty sense of personal violation.
We had a spate of break ins here in the UK a few years back. Planes on
trailers were just hitched up and driven away. In a few hours they could be
in France and lost on the Continent.
If you are contacting the FBI you could try Homeland Security as well.
Convince them that you think someone is clandestinely building a plane you
will have a standing patrol of F14`s over you .

This is a very good point Pat. I want to thank all of you for your comments.
Many people, law enforcement, and the feds are now involved with this
case. It is a federal offense to tamper with an aircraft, so the FBI has been
notified. This doesn't affect me only. It has angered many pilots here
and around the country. This was a beautiful aircraft with
marvelous workmanship by Mark German. Those people that committed this crime had no respect for that or aviation.
We had many trips planned in the Kolbra this summer and none of that will take place. I would like to rebuild, but it will take time
and effort to do that. Laurie is hurting as she loves to fly and can't.
I believe whomever did this or is responsible for this crime is in serious hot
water with all the people working the case. They will be caught and prosecuted. I would not want to be in their shoes right now.

Chris and others, thanks for your concern. The case is moving forward and we have a detective working it. Obviously, those thieves are very cold in what they do and are pilots amongst us as they know Rotax engines. I hope these guys know the seriousness of their crimes as they will go to jail for this when caught. My loss was over $17,000. It's a big setback for me, but those guys got an old engine with over 765 hours on it. Its life is limited, but they didn't know that. I hope it was worth all the work they went through in the middle of the night. We don't need people like this stealing from other pilots. They really don’t have a conscience if they do things like this.
By the way, this robbery happened in the early morning hours of 5/17/11 at the Forest Lake airport in Minnesota. The hanger now has an alarm system, double locks, and the airport is in the process of putting up cameras. These thieves won't be able to get away this again. The serial number of the engine is easy to remember as the last 3 digits are "582" if anyone spots it.
Thanks,
Ralph
