Flew over to the Alvord Desert and the Steens Mountain yesterday morning. Perfect day for flying.
The desert is very wet and green, very abnormal.
The Alvord is up to the edge of the sage brush. Normally, we would be able to land anywhere on the lake at this time of the year.
There was no one at the Alvord Hot Spring or in the area of the Alvord Dry (wet) Lake. Saw some antelope and a golden eagle.
Three fellow Kolbers are arriving today. Mike Marker and Gary Haley are flying in from Houston, TX, and Los Lunas, NM. They spent the night last night, camping out at Ibex Lake in Western Utah. We have been following them by SPOT. They are back in the air and flying north this morning. Roger Hankins is loading up at Grants Pass, OR, trailering his Kolb and other toys to the Rock House. Should arrive at 2000 or 2100 hours this evening.
Got to make a call this morning to Steve Henry, over near Boise. Steve is the fellow that does the dead stick take offs. He started out with a Firestar before switching to the Highlander.
