I am finding droplets hanging under the waterpump on my 912, and from time to time a small puddle below the plane (next morning)

 The engine, more than 10 years old has 740h+ so I guess it is about time to replace a seal and gasket. Does anyone on this forum have an idea of how much water leakage that is acceptable? e.g if I can postpone the fix for another couple of houndred of hours?

  Have anyone of you had the same problem and replaced parts of the pump...if so is it possible to do it without removing the engine from the plane (Original AeroDesigns Pulsar)

I had a leak with the same features as yours.  I was convinced it was a water pump problem and bought a new pump and gaskets. They are still in a box. Problem turned out to be a deteriorated water hose.

There is a small drain hole in the bottom of the water pump body casting (common to automotive water pumps also).  If you are patient with finding the right location for an inspection mirror with flash light pointed at the mirror face, you should be able to view the drain hole for evidence of coolant droplets shortly after shutting down the engine.  I had a similar problem about 40 tach hours back with an occasional small loss of coolant.  I found the pump seal to be incompetent and stopped the leak with Aluma Seal.  Contrary to the claims of others, I have had good past results from this coolant additive without detrimental results in cooling efficiency.  The wing tip lenses you shipped to me way back when worked out great...thanks.

I have an occasional reoccurring drip in that area, too, but my drip is from the hose.

  

 Sometimes a few drips, then nothing for months, then a few drips to a teaspoon the day after a flight, then nothing again for months.

  

 No enough change to my overflow bottle to even measure.

More recently I have had a few drops too, intermittently. One thing I found that probably contributed to the problem was that the sealing washer in the pressure cap of the coolant distribution bottle on top of the engine had perished and there were signs of some coolant loss there. Also, not enough to even top up the overflow bottle.

I've inspected under the engine after shutting down and could find no signs of leakage on the inside of the lower cowling, so I still don't know where it is coming from. There is also the possibility of a few drips from any of the lower coolant hoses, or their fittings into the heads.

The air through the engine compartment can create the appearance of a hose leak where there is none and the actual source of the leak is elsewhere.  You can also use an air compressor to apply low pressure (10-15 lbs) to the coolant system via removed radiator cap.  I use an adapter I made from automotive tubeless tire valve stem with a shock rubber bushing (donut) slipped over the valve stem.  By grasping the rubber donut one can force the base of the valve stem into the opening of coolant spider and apply air pressure to the coolant system for approximately 20-30 seconds.  Then while the engine is cold or hot one can do a thorough check for leaks.   I usually place a rag over the hand that is used to maintain pressure on the valve stem so as to absorb any blow-back from the release of air pressure  upon completion of test.  The procedure is a quick static test of the coolant system that can be performed any time there is question concerning coolant system leak integrity.

  Thanks a lot for the input.

 My wife has - almost voluntary - donated a couple of her small mirrors that I hope will fit under the waterpump. I will then do the test Rotax describes: Run for 5 minutes and check if droplets can be seen from the drainopening within the first minute after shutdown. 

 Before that I will check and double check all coolant hoses before ordering any spareparts.

 I will keep you posted on my findings
