Doug and Kathleen thank all of you who have sent good wishes and words of support. It has meant a great deal to them as they have started the mending process.
Their daughter Methea has been with them during the day, and staying with Laura and me at Laura's house in Bigfork.
Laura and I were with them this morning and they are both up and walking, their sense of humor is pretty much fully intact, they keep finding new places that hurt or are growing a bruise, they enjoy laughing even when it hurts, they are both wearing clamshell braces that give them a bit of a "Star Wars Stormtrroper" effect, they have decided that International orange is the appropriate color for bush plane flying clothes and that partial helmets are in order, and - they are already discussing what model Piper will be their next bush plane.
Doug corrected my account of agl - they were at the departure threshold, about 200 agl and just starting over high timber. No time, no place but a small clearing with a downhill lie. There is a picture of the plane in the local paper today - www.dailyinterlake.com -
Kathleen is scheduled to check out of the hospital tomorrow morning (Wednesday). She and Doug will join us in Bigfork until Friday morning. On Friday we have arranged for an Angel Flight to take the three of them home to Omak. Instead of a scenic eight hour drive through Montana, Idaho and Washington they will have to tough it out for about an hour in a Pilatus PC-12 turboprop. With leather seats. Pressurized. Not a typical Yak/CJ or bush plane ride but, hey, one has to adapt.
Again, Doug and Kathleen thank you for all the good wishes and support and look forward to talking with you in the future.

Yak Jock (Batman). Tell Doug & Kathleen that Randy "dabear" and I will have the car waiting in Chicago to pick them up and pamper them for a week of RECOOP in OSH. "Will leave a light on" - they can have your vacant room, and I can forward two roundtrip "Standby Tickets" Kalispell to ORD to Kalispell. Seeing them in their new body suits would do the crowd good and the Redstar folks would be glad to show their appreciation.
