I live in Colorado at 7200 feet elevation, I will be flying off grass. There
are many 10,000 foot days during the Summer.

Question - which engine would be best for this application, Jabiru 3300,
Jabiru 2200, Rotax 912m, Rotax 914, O235, turbine?

Regards, John Read

John,
I am here in Colorado at 9,100'. I am planning something Turbo'd. You =
derate HP of and engine around 3% per 1,000 in elevation. I haven't =
gotten this far yet, still cutting out parts, but I have been doing some =
research on engines, and haven't come up with a solution yet. I don't =
want to pay the price of a 914, but I would like something tried and =
proven also.

John,

Here is a link to a great review of the 102hp Smart
engine in an FK9. It is a 3 cylinder 4 stroke with,
fuel injection, turbocharger, dual ignition, optional
intercooler. Has great fuel economy too!

http://www.ecofly.de/download/TodaysPilot_11_05.pdf

They also have and 82hp version with the same
configuration, and a 60hp diesel version.

Maybe by the time I am ready to build, these will be
more readily available.

Best regards,

Craig Moore
