Many comments on the Yahoo 480 group regarding poor seating/mating in the mounting tube.
Make sure it is secure, fully engaged. Even 1/32" makes a difference.

I had the GNS 480 software upgrade, since then I am not getting any CDI function on the HSI. the VDI etc, still works, but not CDI.
I have checked my setup and all seems OK to me - but I may be missing something.
Also, Altitude does not display on MX 20 - have an SL70 remote transponder - output from GNS 480 is showing correct altitude.
Any GNS 480 experts, help would be appreciated. Avionics shop where I had the upgrade done is not homebuilder friendly.

Thanks Dan,
I heard the same concerns from other users - I removed the unit, my tray was set back about 1/32 from the panel. Moved it forward and reseated the unit and tightenned it well, I heard that they had designed a new tray and some have replaced the tray?
All is working well again. I know what you mean about user friendly, but once you get it sorted out it is great.
Regards,
Dave

[quote]Dave:I've been flying my RV-7A for nearly two years, I have a Garmin 480 as my primary radio - probably one of the last ones to come off the production line - took me a long time to get comfortable with it - not terribly user friendly - have finally done it - it's a great radio - amazing capability. A couple of months ago I kept losing GPS function - I'd be in the middle of an approach or in cruise - suddenly - nothing - my long time mentor suggested sliding the radio partially out of the rack and reseating it - push firmly on the four corners of the case - then snug it down real good with the allen wrench - haven't had a problem since - I carry the allen wrench in the side pocket by my left elbow - every couple of weeks I snug the set screw down.
Just a suggestion -
