This showed up on the Aeroelectric Connection forum (also on Matronics) yesterday. I asked the author for permission to reprint it here.
"Anyone considering a Viking engine please be advised, I have had $4,300 deposit since Oct 28th and payment in full since May 8th and still haven't seen my engine yet.
I called Jan today and he hung up on me and all I got after that was voice mail.
I don't think that I would be ordering an engine from him."

I don't know any of the details of Mr Stanton's dealings with Viking other than what is here. Just thought I'd pass it along.

I have followed the Viking progress for at least a year. This delivery complaint is just one of many that are likely to be out there. I think Jan is a victim of his own success and has some real challenges over the next six months to get the large quantity of engines he has deposits for out the door. I believe he has 3 “factory” airplanes flying with the engine and less than a dozen deliveries to first customers about 2 months ago. Not surprisingly those deliveries were late from original plans....His business model just doesn’t seem to provide for quickly ramping up production to 10 or 20 engines per mouth or whatever his initial demand is. Even if he wanted to, he probably couldn’t find a quality outside engine house to sub some of the manufacturing to for liability reasons.
Maybe Rotax will buy him out as a threat to their market, conform it, certify it, and then double the price to that of the 912.

Here's a tip to be sucessful always,ALWAYS take care of what business that you have!! The rest will follow. It's my thought that if some one wanted there money back, they or whom ever should have sent them there money back in a flash .If the truth was known most of the un happy people wouldn't have taken it, I've been there and done that. It would have shown good faith on the part of the eng. builder, and the clint would had nothing but praise for the co. Now all they have is a un happy person that 's worried about there money, and has nothing good to say, that's not a good thing ,and far from being good business no matter what the reason is, again been there done that . The old saying "that the customer is always right" is a bunch of CRAP,but the customer is always the customer, and he should be treated better than it appears in his post. As far as it being a costom eng, that also sound's like a big load of crap, that money has been spent on something other than one eng., and that is what seperates the sheep from the goats...
