Anyone on the list KNOW the process by which the knobs were removed from the
old original Cheng/Shin tires?

If I recall, they were removed by a grinding method! If your having a =
hard time finding tires, switch to turf glide by carlisle I have used =
them in the past and they work great. I have since gone to the 6" split =
wheel from Matco and installed 600x6 air trac tires.

Hi Ray,
Thanx for the input. I have found the original tires for about $20 and I am
wondering if maybe the knobs were removed by a recapping shop. I have had
good luck w/ the tires ,but I have 400+ hours and 10 yrs on them and they
are beginning to weather check a bit so I will need to replace them before
long.
BTW, I am doing an annual and checked the valve stems and was able to
break them off by pushing against them w/ my thumb. You might want to check
them.
Are the Carlisle tires fairly light? Do they fit the old rims? May end up
doing that. Larry

Hi ! Larry,
yes they are buffed down by a recapping shop. However I =
swapped to Lawnmower/Golf Cart tyres with a mild tread made by Goodyear =
in USA. I think they are 16.50 x 7 x 8. They are 4 ply whereas the =
originals are only two ply so don't get punctures all the time. As they =
are slightly smaller they are still only about the same weight and don't =
touch the inside of the wheel pants at times like the originals. I am =
very much happy with these,
Rex Shaw.

Hi Rex,
I found some tires I think I will try from John McBean. They are a little
larger, but for the flying I do with the Fox,fatter is better and I don't
have thorns to contend with. Also,I never use wheel pants so that is not a
problem.
I think I will still try to see if I can get a recapper to buff down a set
of the old type ,Just to see..
Thanx for the info. Larry
