Hmmmm . . . there was a set of instructions unique to a
particular series of ND alternators that spoke to
removing the built-in regulator and converting it
to external (a-la B&C L-series). But I've not seen
anything that shows how to leave it in.
It's something an alternator repair shop might
be able to help you with.
