It sounds like you have a good, well maintained engine Clive. Â Re Pete's comment about Rotec and TBO, given that their radials don't have any of the issues afflicting Jabs generally, then I would imagine that they are much more likely to go to TBO. Â A reason why there may not be any that have gone that many hours as yet is more to do with the type of aircraft that they are fitted to. Check the website. Â The radials are fitted to an amazing variety of machines, including motorcycles !

I understand there are plenty of 2000+ engines that have passed that milestone as generally the bottom end is ‘rock solid’ notwithstanding flywheel bolts and… and …and of course through bolts (WTF?).
That is unless you drew a bad ticket in the Jabiru lottery, that also goes for not making 1000hrs of course…..and that’s the shame of it all. Once the head situation was sorted we should have been able to look forward to a trouble free engine with small improvements made in developments as they were tried and proven by Jabiru.
That wasn’t the strategy that Jabiru used unfortunately as any reader of the lists will testify, knee jerk changes that were untried was the way to go (is it still?). I live in hope that the tickets being handed out are going to eventually be consistently good ones as I have a soft spot for the engine, can’t imagine why………

As often said, we don’t hear much about long term success stories on the lists by the nature of the way they work, but it would be nice to hear lots of folk posting theirs.

That reminds me of a question I've been wondering about recently:
How many Jabiru engines have 'made TBO', broken down by type?
What exactly does 'make TBO" mean?
Hopefully, Jabiru is not making "big bright promises with not much behind them" !
Thanks!

I did get a second pair of heads after 600 hrs, they were second hand ones off the front of someone’s engine.
Maintenance wise just changed the oil, filters etc, didn’t mess with heads or tappets too much as the heads were just bending, after a few flights you could always pull them up again a bit. Lapped the valves probably 4 times in 1000 hrs, Temps were Ok as it’s a Jab in a Jab with the old super sucking cowl.
The Fox Orange got a particularly bad ticket, since then he’s been printing his own….
