Does anyone know what happened to the KitFox SuperSport with the radial? Saw a picture from Oshkosh this year with the same paint job and same N number but with a conventional cowling. Obviously the engine was removed and replaced. Anyone know why? I really liked the look of the radial on it, did it not perform well??

Just wondering...,

What is that N number? Easy enough to look up who owns it and give them a call.

I'd like to hear what happened too.

I don't know - let's ask him.

John,

How about telling us about the history of the radial in your KF? Any reason in
particular that you've apparently changed it out?

John told me that it served it's purpose as an advertizing bed and they moved on. Lycoming offered the 233 motor to test and they went ahead with that.
Unconfirmed stories are that the radial was not reliable or a good performer.

No doubt about it, it's a beautiful installation and airplane. I hope they make a profit.

You are correct about the Lycoming... but your unconfirmed reports are
false.

We worked a deal out with Rotec Radial to install the R2800.. Let's face it,
the radial is a great look on the Kitfox ! So we developed a complete S7SS
firewall forward for the R2800 and it is available and several have been
sold. We never did get a chance to test different props and the Sensenich
prop we had was not the perfect fit but Sensenich now has a prop they claim
to be the correct one. We flew it to and from Oshkosh last year and I'm
certain that with the correct prop we could get over 1000 fpm climbs and
cruise speeds of 115-120 TAS. We did have some issues early on with the
throttle body and we changed to the Bing. I believe Rotec has resolved the
issue but we never re-installed the throttle body. Fuel burn increased
some... approximately 6.5 - 7GPH.

As many know we are an OEM for Rotax, Lycoming, and Continental. We have
been working with Lycoming since 2008 when they introduced the 233 to
possibly install it as an option on the Kitfox S-LSA aircraft. As we all
know the 233 lagged. This summer Lycoming said we would have the first of
"X" engines off the production line for testing and we committed to trying
to get it to Oshkosh on a FLYING aircraft. We are the first flying the new
engine complete as delivered from Lycoming with their new electronic
ignition. We are extremely busy with kit orders and S-LSA orders and simply
did not have enough time or free resources to build a new aircraft. Not
wanting to miss the opportunity we decided to pull the Radial and install
the Lycoming. The Lycoming powered Kitfox was front row center stage in
front of the Lycoming booth at Oshkosh.

Fly Safe !!
