My guess about these windmills is that they in fact will reduce turbulence as they are sapping energy out of the air stream, and unlike a motor propeller not putting any into it.
I have flown near some of them in my Sierra out in New Mexico never noticed a thing one way or the other, I think they operate as a wind barrier for lack of better words.

Thom- Thanks.  The noise issue was raised in Vt., near where I have a cabin.  The NIMBY syndrome, noisy, chopping up birds, unsightly, etc.  They are putting some up on a high ridge there.  As I intend to put in a field there, I was wondering about it.  I wouldn't be anywhere near 500' in any direction.  Probably more turbulence with the hills, ponds, and lakes.

"Did you notice any unusual turbulance over the wind farm?"

William,

None at all. Of course I did not get within 500' of the wind turbines and for the most part I was above them, not down wind from them at their level.

Re: Wind tubines
I've read a lot of anti-wind-turbine hype and some say that they are noisy. A few weeks ago, I drove to this area and parked my car between two of them close by. I got out of the car and the only sound I heard were birds chirping. So much for them being noisy and being dangerous to birds.

This particular wind farm is the closest one to Buffalo (not counting the 7-8 turbines on the lake-front) but there are many more further SE of Buffalo. I would guess there are a few hundred of them in this part of western NY and more coming.
