I hope to buy everyone of you a beer, shake your hand, and personally tell you thanks for all of your phone calls, offers of help with the salvage, offers of rides back home to Omak, your many letters, emails, cards, fruit baskets and home cooked meals delivered to our door by many of our local flying friends and RPA members. Thank you, every one of you. We are truly blessed to be counted in the number of the folks you all call friends.
As many of you know as a result of the accident in our cub, Kathleen and I both have badly compressed and fractured vertebrae, broken ribs and some stitches. At this point the stitches are out and the ribs have just about healed. Our backs are still a long way from mended and we are still in upper body braces. We are told that it will be another 6-8 months before we are back to "close to normal".
Special thanks to our very good friends Hal Morley and Laura Long, who watched over us from the moment the emergency folks at Kalispell Regional whould let them in to see us. Laura took us into her beautiful home, pampered us and made us feel like family, a few days later they arranged for a Angel Flight aircraft to take us back to Omak. They are true friends, guardian angels in fact, I honestly do not know how we can ever repay them.
Thanks also to all the folks from the RAF (Recreational Aviation Foundation) who worried over us every literally day in the hospital and continue to check on us via email and phone calls now that we are at home recovering. Kathleen and I had been members only 24 hours when the accident happened, yet we were treated like life time members. We will forever be grateful for the care and attention they gave us, both in getting us out of the wreckage, and the continued well wishes and show of support. This is an outstanding group of folks with a very worthwhile mission, if you have a interest in back country flying you should look into the RAF.
The show of support and concern from the RPA membership has been heart warming indeed. We have received literally hundreds of calls, emails, fruit baskets, prepared meals, and personal visits from members of our CJ and Yak community. I cannot start to tell you how much this means to Kathleen and me. Very humbling indeed, thank you all very much.
We are in the office most days, shipping most every day (at) 9:00 am PST, so contrary to some stories we are not closed, we are indeed open for business. If we don't answer the phone we are most likely in Spokane for rehab. Please leave a message on the voice mail, we will return all calls as soon as we return.
Again, thank you all for your support.
All the best from Omak, still Yakin,
Doug and Kathleen
