I use one of these and it works very well. I do worry a bit about the risk of a spark from the switch in the end of the handle but...

HI Guys,
I use one, have done for three years and it is excellent, using just 2 batteries. Wouldn't be without it.

Hi! Mike
AS far as I’m concerned the item is good. The one I have is similar and it just never needs the batteries replacing !
Not so sure that the rubber seals within are really meant for petrol however leakage runs down the outside of the suction pipe back into the drum anyway.
Allan Burrows sold me mine ...he had some kind of import deal from China I think.
Excellent in the saving of lifting etc.

Bob Harrison G-PTAG

Peter,
This item is sold by Amazon UK on behalf of 'Lime Shop'.
No mention of maker's name or origin though I guess this is China. I ordered
the pump yesterday and will report back on its performance when I have used
it for a while. You will see that several other users are quite satisfied
with the product.

Hi All,
Yes, I use one all the time at the hangar. I have two. The first one I found on Ebay. Had to put a toggle switch on it the first time I used it. The cheap rocker type fell apart. I reduxed an aspirin bottle top portion on top so I would have the cap there in case I needed to service the switch. Then I ran the wires down to where the original switch contacts were. The reason fuel runs down the outside of the shaft is that its a bypass port of some kind. The second unit was given to me by a former hangar mate. It is just an inch or so short of reaching the bottom of my 5 gallon can and haven't used it yet. In any case, I must still set the can on the wing cause I haven't tried to lengthen the hose yet. Probably won't pump as strong from the ground.

I think it only pumps to create a siphon. I have read the manufactures blurb but have not seen one in the flesh. Could someone confirm this?
Rgds to all
Martin.

It pumps up from the wing. We use it for fuel but it is really meant just for water.I have repaired mine several times and now it has a pinhole in the hose. Construction quality is very poor, but it's useful when it works. Typical Chinese junk.
I currently use two 20 l fuel cans but fill them just over halfway to make them easy to lift and hold.
The suggestion of pressurizing a sealed fuel can is best, using a mini rechargeable or powered from the car cigarette lighter compressor.

I agree with you Karl. I had another system pressurizing a jerry can using a double chamber foot pump metal valve in the cap and tube to bottom of jerry can. This worked a treat even for a high wing aircraft (Luscombe).
Another system that works well for low wing aircraft if you have storage, is to fabricate a stand with a large 3 point base. Make sure the platform at the top is higer than the fuel filler hole. Convert a jerry can cap to take a spiggot with fuel hose attached with a fuel tap at the end (to shut down fuel flow in a hurry to stop over filling). Making sure structure is earthed. Then just let gravety do the work. Simple, no moving parts and cheep!
Martin.
