Appreciate advice on ceramic coating for 912ULS exhaust system. I was a bit suprized at how close the exhaust is routed to the rad and plugs on my CH750 fwf kit. Im sure its OK but would would like to err on side of caution and ceramic coat the exhaust pipes. Understand that the muffler should not be coated but not sure about the ball joints. As well the company I contacted advised they do both the inside and outside and said the coating is very thin so it should not affect the ball joint fit.

Appreciate any experience and recommendations on this mod especially in regard to coating the ball joints and interior of pipes.
Thanx Vic

Victor:

I have done coating engineering for 8 years.  I have seen the results of both the coating process and the effects of the coating. Especially in this area - exhaust systems.
My suggestion would be - Do NOT coat.
1 - Applying can de-stress the tubing due to the preparation work required.
2 - The applied heat can vary from application tech to application tech.  Crazy part is it can be applied to a piece of paper without burning it OR it can warp a 1/8" thick piece of CRS.
3 - There is always the possibly of moisture getting trapped below the coating. - In a vibration environment cracks form.
4 - What are they coating it with?  Yitterium (sp) is one of the well known industry standards.
5 - A barrier between the heat source and object is usually easier.
6 - Direct some air flow into the concerned area.
